Wir beziehen uns auf unser Ergebenes vom 8. cts.1 und teilen Ihnen auf Ihre Anfrage2 höfl. mit, daß die Zahlung von K 100.-- kein Ehren-Honorar ist, sondern daß wir im Sinne unseres Vertrages vom 30. Juni 19083 verpflichtet sind Ihnen diesen Betrag zu überweisen. In Punkt 2 dieses Vertrages heißt es: ”Sie vergüten mir für die nach Verkauf der ersten[corr] 2000 Exemplare zu druckenden Auflagen je K 100.-- für jedes 1000”. Bezüglich Ihrer Anfrage, ob es sich um die zweite oder dritte Auflage handelt teilen wir Ihnen höfl. mit, daß wir die ursprünglich als erste Auflage projektierten 2000 Exemplare in zwei Auflagen à je 1000 Exemplare erscheinen ließen, so daß jetzt dem Buchhandel gegenüber4 tatsächlich die dritten Auflage erschienen ist. Dear Doctor, We refer to ours of the 8th inst,1 and respectfully inform you in response to your inquiry2 that the payment of 100.– Kroner is not an honorary honorarium but that we are obliged to transfer this sum to you under the terms of our contract of June 30, 1908.3 In paragraph 2 of this contract it reads: “For any editions to be printed after the sale of the first 2,000 copies, you will remunerate me at the rate of 100.– Kroner per thousand.” With regard to your inquiry as to whether the edition concerned is the second or the third, we would respectfully inform you that we issued what we originally projected as the first edition of 2,000 copies in two editions each of 1,000 copies, so that from the book trade’s point of view4 it is in fact now the third edition that has appeared.
