Sr. Wolgeboren [/] Herrn Professor [/] Dr. Heinrich Schenker,
derz. Payerbach.

Hochverehrter Herr!

Professor Heinrich Schenker, Esq.,
currently at Payerbach.

Most Honored Sir,

As he was on the point of leaving town, Imperial Councillor Weinberger1 passed to me your esteemed letter2 addressed personally to him and asked me to explain why it had become impossible for him to reply to your letter in person.

The Haydn Trios are already for the most part done and published in our Chamber Music Album,3 {2} thus will only be reprinted from the [existing] plates, rather than being newly edited.

Imperial Councillor Weinberger asks you, however, to rest assured that he will be glad when allocating the next part of the project to reserve for you the editing of a work of your choice.

Wishing you pleasant holidays, I remain
With kind regards,
Yours truly,
[signed:] A.. Stedler[?]

2 Schenker's letter, in which he evidently inquired as to the possibility of his editing Haydn piano trios for UE's catalogue, is not known to survive.

3 The "Kammermusikalbum, für Schule und Haus," Trios for violin, cello, and piano, ed. Glossner, had been published as UE 458-461, vols 1-4, issued in 1902.

SUMMARY:
Haydn Trios are mostly already published, and will not be re-edited. Promises to keep Schenker in mind for future editing work.
