Handwritten letter from Rosenthal to Schenker, undated

Wien, Börsenplatz 6

Sehr geehrter Herr!

Ergebenst Ihr

Dear Sir,

You will perhaps have heard from mutual friends of ours how much stress I have been under this summer. As a consequence of my dear mother's grave illness, I have been unable to settle into any regular activity. Now that things are better, it is easier for me to make up my mind [to do] the article,1 but I should like to have a discussion with you in person before doing so. Perhaps you will recommend me to publish as a brochure.

My choice of Mozart did not in the least come about through a bias toward the archaic. A return to the golden age of music seemed to me for various reasons what was called for these days.

May I take the liberty of asking where you read about my latest concert?

Yours most truly,
[signed:] Moriz Rosenthal
