Dear Professor,

Enclosed is Dance No. 32 with the exception of the first violins, which will follow in an hour's time.

Please return this Dance corrected, as quickly as possible, after which Nos. 1, 2, and 3 will be dispatched to Busoni3 immediately.

No.4 is due to arrive this afternoon and will be sent to Busoni, probably uncorrected.

COMMENTARY:
Format: 1-p letter, printed letterhead, stenographically handwritten message, holograph signatures
Sender address: Vienna I, Maximilianstraße 11
Recipient address: Vienna

FOOTNOTES:

1 This is the address of UE, not that of Weinberger (Kohlmarkt 8).

2 Schenker's Syrische Tänze, originally for piano four hands, orchestrated by Arnold Schoenberg at the instigation of Ferruccio Busoni. The dances are No.1 Andante espressivo-Allegro scherzando, D minor; No.2 Allegro con fuoco, C minor; No.3 Allegretto [dolcissimo], G minor; No.4 Allegro molto passionate, D major. They were first performed in this orchestration on November 5, 1903 by the [Berlin] Philharmonic Orchestra in the Beethovensaal, Berlin.

3 Click on Ferruccio Busoni.

4 The appearance of Emil Hertzka's distinctive signature on this letter is surprising, since he did not join UE until 1907.

SUMMARY:
[Schenker: Syrische Tänze, orch. Schoenberg] Encloses orchestral parts for No. 3 and requests corrections; discusses sending to Busoni.
