Elias, Angelika (Angi) (born Vienna, Sept 25, 1882; died Ravensbrück, Jan 13, 1944). Austrian pianist and teacher. One of Schenker's longest-term pupils. Jewish, and of Turkish citizenship, Elias was a pupil of Schenker's from c. 1905 to his death in 1935, taking the full package of three lessons a week, and a comprehensive range of instruction in piano, theory, analysis, and source studies. She was also Schenker's long-time personal assistant, who prepared voice-leading graphs of works by J. S. and C. P. E. Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Chopin for him, many of which survive, and contributed an article to Der Dreiklang in 1937. Elias was also a patron of Schenker, known to have given him 10,000 Kronen in 1917, to have offered him a yearly subvention and support for his publications. She perished in 1944 in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Her correspondence with Heinrich and Jeanette Schenker is preserved as OJ 10/18 (1922-39: 21 items), and OC 38/338, 44/18-19, 52/483, 631 (1925, 1934: 5 items); that from her brother Manolo Elias to Schenker is OJ 10/19 (1934: 1 item). Numerous graphs in her hand survive in OC 10 and 32 (Chopin), 34 (Brahms), 64-65 (Beethoven), 70 (J. S. Bach), and other files, and OJ 33/5.
