Robert Haas (born Prague, Aug 15, 1886; died Vienna, Oct 4, 1960), Austrian librarian and musicologist. Haas served as an assistant to Guido Adler at the Musikhistoriches Institut of the University of Vienna 1908/09, and worked as a conductor 1910-14; from 1914 he was secretary to the series Corpus scriptorum de musica medii aevi and the Denkmäler der Tonkunst in Österreich. After service in World War I, from 1918 he worked in the Musiksammlung (Music Collection) of the Österreichische Nationbibliothek in Vienna, becoming its head in 1920 and remaining in that post until 1945. His fields of speciality were Baroque music, the history of opera, and the life and work of Mozart and Bruckner; he wrote several books, including Aufführungspraxis der Musik (Postdam, 1931), and books on Gluck (1925), Viennese opera (1926), Mozart (1933), and Bruckner (1934), as well as numerous journal articles. Haas and Schenker In 1927, Haas became simultaneously Curator of the Archiv für Photogramme musikalischer Meisterhandschriften, founded by Anthony van Hoboken, with which Schenker was closely associated (the three men comprised its curatorial board).
